Coach’s Week 2 Recap
Parents:
What an amazing two weeks it has been for the Sweetwater Sailfish!
I am getting ready for a fun Fathers Day weekend, which has me reflecting my family and my boys… but it also made me think about our Sailfish!
As I am sure you have noticed, our kiddos have come a VERY long way in a very short amount of time! We have many of our kids, and even many 6 and unders, swimming 25 freestyle! Backstroke is coming along, albeit most of our kids are playing bumper cars with the lane lines - that’s ok! What has shocked me is the number of breaststrokers we have given how little we have worked it! And don’t get me started about diving - wow! Diving was so hard for my boys between fear and getting over “head and hands first”! I did not expect how well we would be diving in this small period of time, these kids are conquering all of their fears!! And if you have noticed them come home from practice tired, it’s because we are doing some serious drills! Just this past Thursday, the average yardage per kid was 500 yards!!!
I also want to thank our parents - sincerely. There is absolutely no way Coach Amy nor I could come close to teaching our kids without your dedication and participation. It is a very hard feet to give these kids the 1:1 attention they deserve, and without all of our parent volunteers - Amy and I would be totally overloaded! And you have instilled such good patience and attention in your kids, that there is almost never a need to give them a “coaches voice” to correct them - they are so eager to swim! Nothing warms my wife or my heart more than when a kid sees me in Harris Teeter and asks “can we have more practices!?”
So Tuesday is our next meet. I plan on pushing our kids even harder for this meet. I will be entering all of the kids in Freestyle and Backstroke (unless you feel strongly no - please put in coaches notes in Swimtopia). I also want to get more swimming breaststroke - so if your kiddo is in, let me know in coaches notes!! Finally, we are going to do relays! I will have some 6’s swim up, and try to form some competitive teams. So - please please please sign up in Swimtopia!!!
I wish all of our Sailfish fathers a very happy weekend this weekend… and Dads, don’t forget to give a lil wink to Mom cause lord knows she is the one that reminds the kids to celebrate you!
Can’t wait to see you Tuesday for the Meet!
Coach Greg
